It has been 30 years since the original release of Even the Best of Plans Can Go Astray. As you will discover through the pages, I found myself in many situations that changed the trajectory of my life between the ages of 20 and 25, and I documented those experiences as a young man. Back then, I wanted to be a gangster, hustler, or pimp, but I found out the hard way that each of those jobs has the penitentiary or death as an occupational hazard.

Even the Best of Plans Can Go Astray details my testimonies, mistakes, trials, triumphs, lessons learned, and promises kept. It provides lessons on how to make plans, but understand that God also guides our steps. It is also the story of growing up fast and growing old too soon, of friends lost and knowledge gained, and of favor through a grandmother’s prayers versus a father’s pride. It is my story through the lens of youth, manhood, and hoping to come of age.

My desire is that this book enables you to recognize that each test you’ve overcome becomes your testimony for someone else’s journey. I hope it makes you laugh, cry, and think, and most importantly, I hope it helps you realize that even the best of plans can go astray if you don’t take the time to think before you act.
